From the National Institute of Health announcement, New York State proposed Medicaid coverage for Transgender & gender-queer youth and NYC's new legislature pursuing data equity for LGBTQI+ people and people of color, we have a lot to recognize and celebrate.

A Brand New Guide for LGBTQI+ Healthcare!

Apicha CHC has been receiving a lot of exciting news lately about advancements in LGBTQI+ healthcare and data equity. Yes, we have another exciting announcement!

In early November we got wind of another crucial step in health equity! On November 2nd, the National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund and the National Coalition for LGBT Health released a new guide addressing the health needs and requirements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people.

The guide offers a comprehensive assessment of LGBTQI+ health needs and priorities. The organizations emphasize the intersectional approach taken when planning and designing the resource.

National LGBTQ Task Force

"It takes into consideration the realities that make up the everyday lives of LGBTQ people, such as racial injustice, economic injustice, gender inequality, and immigration status.”

Candace Bond-Theriault, the National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund.

The Healthcare Priorities:

  • Advocating for reproductive health, rights & justice
  • Creating an AIDS-free generation, promoting HIV harm reduction, and increasing access to PrEP
  • Expanding public health education and treatment for STDs
  • Supporting LGBTQI+ youth experiencing homelessness
  • Improving transgender health care
  • Addressing religious exemptions and non-discrimination laws
  • Promoting LGBTQI+ cultural competency
  • Improving access to mental health support
  • Expanding access to affordable healthcare
  • Ending violence against LGBTQI+ people

"We believe that true liberation will only come when the LGBTQ community and our families can adequately access culturally competent and comprehensive healthcare in all forms. We must advocate for healthcare through an intersectional approach that is inclusive of all of the realities that make up our everyday lives such as economic justice, racial justice, gender justice, and immigration status. This document lists the LGBTQ health priorities that our respective organizations will continue to focus on throughout the next Presidential administration. We have identified ten distinct priorities, recognizing that these issues overlap with one another"
