A Glimpse Inside Apicha CHC’s 27th Anniversary Gala

On May 17th, at our 27th Anniversary Gala, Apicha CHC staff, community members and loyal supporters congregated in the Manhattan Ballroom at the Grand Hyatt New York. It was a powerful night that once again shed light on Apicha CHC's long-standing activism, as well as honoring individuals that have had a great impact in New York City and beyond. It is a night when we take a moment of pause to look back on the hard work over the past year, celebrate amazing accomplishments and express our deepest gratitude to our community. 

A Night We'll Remember 

This years Gala was hosted by Ramy Inocencio, anchor and correspondent at Bloomberg LP. He welcomed guests and ushered in the night’s theme by recognizing longtime supporters of Apicha CHC.

We commenced the evening with a wonderful cocktail hour, filled with conversation and joy as we began the celebration. Then we held a silent auction, featuring handmade jewelry for both men and women. Following the auction, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and waited to begin the award ceremony. 

And of course we had our annual ceremony, where we took time to honor the remarkable people whose work benefits the communities we serve: Stacyann Chin, Poet, NYC Council Member Julissa Ferreras-Copeland, and Dan O'Connell, former Director New York State AIDS Institute. To learn more about this year's honorees, click here.

The night ended with a rousing speech by Apicha CHC's CEO Therese R. Rodriguez. She spoke about a recommitment to Apicha’s 27-year history of improving the health of our communities and increasing access to comprehensive primary care, preventive health services, mental health and support services.

As an organization, we are so fortunate to be guided by such incredible leaders. It has never been more clear that Apicha CHC has flourished and grown because of our leaders' unwavering commitment to quality, community healthcare for all people.

We hope everyone left with a renewed sense of urgency to work to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic and provide access to healthcare services for everybody.

Remember, you don't have to be one of our honorees to be an advocacy champion! Here are some easy things you can do:

• You can volunteer or participate in HIV/AIDS awareness events
• Educate your friends on the importance of knowing their status and knowing how HIV is prevented
• Get tested!  

If we each help prevent one person from contracting HIV, we will be one step closer to ending the epidemic.
