National Health Center Week is from August 8-14. It's an opportunity for everyone to celebrate all the work that patients, staff, and community health centers do. And, to celebrate your own health too!
National Health Center Week is also a good opportunity for you to step up your health game, and take advantage of the resources available to you. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it's more important than ever to care for your health.
Here are five ways you can take part in National Health Center Week and take care of yourself.
1. Get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 helps protect you and others. If you haven't already, getting vaccinated is a great way to prioritize your health, and your community's health. Additionally, starting August 16, New York City businesses will require proof of vaccination for entry. If you'd like to get vaccinated, Apicha CHC offers the vaccine for free.
2. Enroll in health insurance.
Don't have health insurance? That's OK! Many health centers, like Apicha CHC, offer health insurance enrollment for its patients. In 2017 alone, around 3.2 million Americans were uninsured. Getting health insurance doesn't have to be hard; plenty of health centers like Apicha CHC can help you.
3. Get tested.
During National Health Center Week and year-round, Apicha CHC offers free STD/HIV testing and screening. If you're tight on cash or unable to see your provider, you can still take care of getting tested this week. Getting tested can be a huge weight off your shoulders, and is important for staying healthy. You can schedule a testing appointment with Apicha CHC here.
4. Schedule an appointment with a local health center.
During this week, many health centers will be doing events to reach out to the community and offer services to those in need. Find a health center convenient for you, and schedule an appointment. If you haven't been to the doctor's in a while, this is a great step towards getting healthy.
5. Invest in primary care.
Primary care is a great way for you to stay healthy. If you don't already have a primary care provider, you should consider finding one. With primary care, your doctor can provide you with day to day care, such as annual physicals, wellness checks, vaccinations, and referrals. You can learn more about primary care and the different types of primary care here.
